Teachers

The teachers at The Cedar House are a dedicated and passionate group, deeply committed to nurturing young minds and hearts. With their extensive training and careful vetting, they bring both expertise and enthusiasm to every lesson. Their love for the Lord shines through in their teaching, and they share a special appreciation for the outdoors, encouraging children to connect with nature and develop a love for the world around them. These educators go beyond academics, inspiring students to embrace the beauty and wonder of nature, fostering a sense of exploration, curiosity, and stewardship that will last a lifetime. At The Cedar House, children are taught not just in the classroom, but in the great outdoors, learning to love and respect the world God has created.

Chad & Samantha Speir – Directors

Samantha, a proud native of the DFW area, founded The Cedar House in 2017 with a heart full of passion and purpose. She earned a BFA in Musical Theatre from Sam Houston State University, married her husband Chad, and they joyfully welcomed their son. With a deep love for worship through the arts and a passion for working with children, Samantha always felt a strong calling to create something special. Her favorite place to be is outdoors, enjoying the beauty of nature and God’s wonderful creatures. The Cedar House blends all of her passions perfectly, and she is profoundly grateful to her friend Abby for her courage in following her dreams and sharing this incredible vision with the homeschooling community in Texas.

Skye Turk

Skye was born in raised in a small military town in Northern California, where she met her husband – a DFW native, while he was stationed in California. Before her first child became school age, she worked as a Christian birth doula and remains passionate about all things holistic health. After her husband’s Air Force  enlistment ended, the Tuck family relocated back to DFW. With a young baby at home, Skye helps lead our admin and finds great joy in being able to connect with TCH families from home.

Kenzie Martin

Kenzie grew up in Greenville, Texas. She married her high school sweetheart, Nekoda and they have two wonderful children. Kenzie has been a stay-at-home mom since she had her firstborn and has been teaching at The Cedar House in 2021. She has a heart for animals and kids and would keep them all if she could.

Ashley Osuna

Ashley, originally from New Mexico, followed God’s calling and relocated to Texas with her husband, Daniel, and their three girls. Ashley homeschools her girls, cherishing the freedom and connection it brings to their family. They live on a homestead where they focus on self-sufficiency and simple living. Her family enjoys spending quality time together with game nights and fishing in their pond. Working at The Cedar House has brought Ashley great joy as she gets to share the beauty of nature with children while nurturing a love for Jesus.

Victoria Swanson

Victoria grew up in the suburbs outside of Dallas, went to the University of Texas in Austin to get a degree in education, and then promptly made her way back to the Dallas area. She married her husband John in 2013 and they have 4 kiddos which have added lots of life and subtracted lots of sleep to their lives. Victoria has always worked with kids in some capacity; whether teaching middle school English after college, working with South Dallas high school kids, discipling preschool kids in Sunday school, or now in the season of homeschooling her own. In 2018 God gave them a dream and some land in the country where they could begin to raise their kids differently. The Cedar House feels like a natural extension of what they are doing and desire to do for their children’s education. Victoria is so grateful God led to The Cedar House where she can jump in and link arms with other families who wish for their kids to love learning, the outdoors, and all the wonderful things The Cedar House has to offer. When she isn’t homeschooling, Victoria enjoys staying active, fishing, hiking, and a good book on her back porch (after she has cleaned off the inevitable chicken poop).

Kelli Esquivel

Kelli is a Rockwall native, and a mom of 5: Angel, Henry, Serenity, Penelope, and Kennedi. She and her family live in Fate, and this will be their 3rd year of homeschool. One of Kelli’s favorite things about homeschooling is NOT being within 4 walls all day, so teaching our Hedgehogs class is a perfect fit for her! She and her family love spontaneous fun, hands-on-learning, soccer, gymnastics, and hiking and camping together.

Carley Blakemore

Carley lives in Greenville, Texas with her husband of 17 years and their two amazing kids Hannah and Brady. She has been a homeschool mom for 6 years and loves every minute. She enjoys anytime she gets to be in the sunshine or water and loves spending time with her family. She loves hunting for treasures at estate sales and scrapbooking, she also loves anything home design. When Carley is not homeschooling you will find her at the baseball field cheering the loudest for her son at his games. She loves children and animals big and small, especially her baby chihuahua but most of all loves being a wife and mom to the best two kids a mom could ask for!

LDub

LDub lives in Dallas with her husband and two boys, Hudson and Lincoln. Laura began homeschooling her boys in 2016 and has been teaching at The Cedar House since 2021. She enjoys exploring nature with her family, antiquing, baseball games, road trips, and – like a true lover of education – buying books!

Laura Selph

Laura grew up in Texas and graduated from Ouachita Baptist University with a BA in Accounting and Information Systems.  While in Arkansas for college she met and married her husband John but got them both back to Texas as soon as she could.  They have three wild and wonderful girls that keep life fun.  Her favorite things are reading, Disney, adoption, friends, family, and Jesus.  Her first experience with The Cedar House was through sending her kids and it was one of the best parts of their homeschool.

Meghan Warfuel

Meghan is a Pittsburgh, PA native. She attended the University of Notre Dame and moved to Texas in 2008 where she continued her education and became a Physician Assistant. She works in the emergency room in several local hospitals, mainly Presbyterian in Rockwall where she lives with her husband and two daughters. Meghan is excited to join her children and all of the families at the Cedar House this year after her older daughter enjoyed a wonderful first year of both homeschool and The Cedar House last year. Meghan was a rower in college and has a love for bodies of water, hiking, science and camping.
