Samantha Speir

Samantha grew up in the DFW area.  She received a BFA in Musical Theatre from Sam Houston State University, married her husband Chad, and then joyfully welcomed their son.  Samantha has always had a passion for worship through the arts and for working with children.  Her favorite place to be is outdoors enjoying nature and God’s beautiful creatures.  The Cedar House is a perfect combination of all her favorite things, and Samantha is deeply grateful to her friend Abby for her courage in following her dreams and for sharing The Cedar House with the home school community in Texas.

Laura Selph

Laura grew up in Texas and graduated from Ouachita Baptist University with a BA in Accounting and Information Systems.  While in Arkansas for college she met and married her husband John but got them both back to Texas as soon as she could.  They have three wild and wonderful girls that keep life fun.  Her favorite things are reading, Disney, adoption, friends, family, and Jesus.  Her first experience with The Cedar House was through sending her kids and it was one of the best parts of their homeschool.

Meghan Warfuel

Meghan is a Pittsburgh, PA native. She attended the University of Notre Dame and moved to Texas in 2008 where she continued her education and became a Physician Assistant. She works in the emergency room in several local hospitals, mainly Presbyterian in Rockwall where she lives with her husband and two daughters. Meghan is excited to join her children and all of the families at the Cedar House this year after her older daughter enjoyed a wonderful first year of both homeschool and The Cedar House last year. Meghan was a rower in college and has a love for bodies of water, hiking, science and camping.   

Katie McCasland

Katie is a former elementary school/early child-hood teacher turned homeschool momma. She has two crazy kids. Harper is 9 years old and Norah is 4, but acts 16.  They live in downtown McKinney.  Her husband Brice is a high-school art teacher as well as a local artist.  Teaching and constantly learning more about trends in homeschooling/education are her guilty pleasures.  She finds herself perusing curriculum and reading education blogs all the time as her past time. She also teaches English to kids in China early in the mornings.  Her son attended The Cedar House 2 years ago and they fell in love with the program.  Seeing children capture those unbelievable childhood memories that we all carry with us is one of her most favorite things to be a part of.

Mary Wesson

Mary Wesson, a Greenville native, has loved country living since childhood. As a second- generation homeschooler she enjoys reading, crafting, decorating and being in God’s creation with her amazing husband, Eric, and their four wild and free children.

Laci Martin

Laci Martin lives in Greenville, Texas with her husband and three children, two of which will be attending The Cedar House this Fall. Laci Went to Texas A&M Commerce where she obtained her bachelors in Early Childhood Education. She taught kindergarten for two years before deciding to homeschool her children for the 2019-20 school year. Her interest include playing soccer, visiting state parks and hiking every chance she gets. 


Sally grew up mostly in Dallas and graduated with a BA in French from Baylor University, where she met her future husband, Ken Wilgus.  She completed her M.A. in French from Middlebury College in Vermont and in Paris, France.  After returning to Texas she taught French at the University of Texas at Austin while Ken completed his PhD in psychology there.  He has a private practice in Dallas. They moved to Celeste in 1995 to raise their three children, Alex, Anna and Frances, who are all grown and married to marvelous spouses, and who so far have provided Sally and Ken with 5 stellar grandchildren plus one on the way. Sally loves language, music, art and literature, and gardening and cooking, and encouraging young students to expand their knowledge of God’s magnificent world.


Julie grew up in Greenville, Texas where she still resides with her husband Wade and their 4 children. After high school, Julie attended a trade school where she studied surgical technology. She was a certified scrub tech for 6 years at Hunt Regional Medical Center before beginning her gig as a stay at home mom.  Since Julie was a little girl she has loved children and spent much of her time indoors playing teacher. Now, as a mom, she is learning the great outdoors is the best place to learn.


Jennifer grew up in Mesquite and received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Austin. She married her husband, Andy, who is a Dallas Firefighter. They have 2 beautiful kids, 1 labradoodle and 7 chickens. She is a lover of Jesus, family, ice cream and gardening. In that particular order. 🙂

 Jennifer has been a nurse for 9 years. During that time she has worked in the NICU and pediatrics. She enjoys homeschooling, camping and spending time with her church family at Redeemer Church in Fate. 


Lucy and her husband Richard moved to the USA from England shortly after they were married. Having lived in the south, and on both the East and West Coasts, they are now happy to return to TX and call McKinney their home. They are parents to 6 beautiful children who certainly keep them on their toes and entertained in many ways. Lucy has a passion for connecting middle and high school age youth into a genuine relationship with Jesus, one where they can choose to accept their faith as their own, whether they were raised in the church or are new believers. She loves to learn and serve others, and this led her to enroll in Western Seminary, where she is currently working on a Masters in Ministry and Leadership. This love of learning translates to a desire to encourage others to seek the same, and as such, Lucy has enjoyed homeschooling her children since her eldest was in Kindergarden. She is excited to join The Cedar House with her kids this year as they settle into life as Texans. 


Ginni grew up in the Dallas area and resides with her family in Rockwall.  She is married to her husband Charlie and has three kids.  She is a Certified Pediatric Nurse but has not been actively practicing nursing since she had her last child almost three years ago.  She loves working with kids and seeing them learn in a fun and interactive environment.  She also enjoys making bracelets, decorating and renovating homes with her husband.

Vanessa Zamora grew up in Los Angeles, Orange County, and McKinney. She received her BA in communication studies from the University of Texas and worked at startups in various marketing roles until 2012 when she left corporate to embark on a new path. She turned to cultivating family land and realized her love of nature and understanding the source of our food. This path eventually led to a merging of her interests and she was hired as community coordinator for a restaurant group where she managed social media, events, and worked with the culinary team to source products from her growing network of local farmers. Faced with uncertainty in the school system, Vanessa began to seek elsewhere for the education of her sons Blake and Asher and was led to The Cedar House where she instantly fell in love. This is her first year homeschooling. 

Jana is a Texas native, and graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Studio Art. She has taught visual art for many years, and currently runs a small fine arts program at For the Nations Refugee Outreach. She is married to Michael, a pastor, and mama to three precious children. Her favorite things are reading, drawing, plants, traveling, museums, watching British murder mysteries, and East Africa.

Ali grew up in Kingwood, Texas and graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration.  She lives in Fate with her husband, Blake, and their three very active boys. Tucker is 7 years old, Jase is 5 and Carson is 2. Ali enjoys spending time with her family whether it be on the lake, river, camping or just in the back yard swimming and hanging out. Her and her family are members of Redeemer Church in Fate, Tx.
