Samantha Speir

Samantha grew up in the DFW area.  She received a BFA in Musical Theatre from Sam Houston State University, married her husband Chad, and then joyfully welcomed their son.  Samantha has always had a passion for worship through the arts and for working with children.  Her favorite place to be is outdoors enjoying nature and God’s beautiful creatures.  The Cedar House is a perfect combination of all her favorite things, and Samantha is deeply grateful to her friend Abby for her courage in following her dreams and for sharing The Cedar House with the home school community in Texas.

Laura Selph

Laura grew up in Texas and graduated from Ouachita Baptist University with a BA in Accounting and Information Systems.  While in Arkansas for college she met and married her husband John but got them both back to Texas as soon as she could.  They have three wild and wonderful girls that keep life fun.  Her favorite things are reading, Disney, adoption, friends, family, and Jesus.  Her first experience with The Cedar House was through sending her kids and it was one of the best parts of their homeschool.

Meghan Warfuel

Meghan is a Pittsburgh, PA native. She attended the University of Notre Dame and moved to Texas in 2008 where she continued her education and became a Physician Assistant. She works in the emergency room in several local hospitals, mainly Presbyterian in Rockwall where she lives with her husband and two daughters. Meghan is excited to join her children and all of the families at the Cedar House this year after her older daughter enjoyed a wonderful first year of both homeschool and The Cedar House last year. Meghan was a rower in college and has a love for bodies of water, hiking, science and camping.   

Helanie Tresidder

Helanie Tresidder was born and raised in South Africa. After moving to the United States and having kids, she resolved to homeschool all four of them and worked hard finding proper curriculums and teaching methods. She loves nature and herbage, and is fond of long walks in creeks and forest trails. Happy whenever she’s outside, Helanie wants to instill that same joy in others, teaching children about the fascinating world that surrounds them. 

Kim Lyon

Kim grew up in NJ but got to Texas as fast as she could, where she reconnected with and married her high school sweetheart Don.  They live on a small farmstead in Leonard with their three wild and free children.  She was a teacher for over ten years before going back to school for nursing and currently works in NICU.  She has been homeschooling since 2015 and loves being able to spend every day with her children exploring and learning together.  They are very involved with Irish dance, love all things outdoors, and have attended The Cedar House for the last three years.  She is excited to see what this next year brings!

Tricia Lespreance

Tricia Lespreance was born and raised in Kansas and met her husband in his home state of Nebraska during a summer internship.  After graduating with a BS in Engineering from Kansas State University, she worked 17 years for 1 oil and gas company in various engineering and management roles.  After the birth of their 4th child, God called her to serve her family in a new way and so she began the transition out of the workforce and into full time homeschooling mom.  This is her 5th year homeschooling and 1st year at The Cedar House.  Their family enjoys time together exploring God’s beauty from their RV, on the lake, riding a trail, and on their homestead in Fate. 

Kenzie Martin

Kenzie grew up in Greenville, Texas. She married her high school sweetheart, Nekoda and they have two wonderful children. Kenzie has been a stay-at-home mom since she had her firstborn and takes care of a few other children. She has a heart for animals and kids and would keep them all if she could. The Martin family is looking forward to their first year at The Cedar House. 

Karen Hallmon

Karen spent most of her childhood in Waco, Texas and attended college at the University of North Texas. She received a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies of Early Childhood with a Special Education emphasis. Soon after graduation, she moved with her husband (Dave) to the southern Illinois area so that he could finish school. They ultimately landed in St Louis, Missouri and soon started a family. Recently Karen and Dave have moved back to Texas and are excited to join the Cedar House community. They have 4 children Addie, Andrew, Alivia and Anya. Karen has a passion for children with learning differences as well as the Montessori method of teaching. She holds two Montessori accreditations (AMI and NCME). From 2016-2021 she worked for a Metro East Montessori School in Illinois and was a Primary Guide (ages 3-6) for three of those years. She is excited about her family’s next phase of life that includes living near family in Texas, homeschooling, joining the Cedar House community, and eating better BBQ. She loves hiking/camping with her family, playing Settlers of Catan and watching Hayo Miyazaki movies.

Rhonda Frantz

Mrs. Frantz is a board-certified cardiovascular sonographer.  Cardiac and vascular anatomy, as well as ultrasound physics were a big portion of her occupation.  She worked in the medical field for many years and cardiology was her passion.  In 1999, she began contract work so she could be home with her daughter.  Learning side by side with her daughter, she fell in love with the freedom of homeschooling and the homeschool community.  This was also how God brought her back to Him.  She has been married for 31 years and now homeschools her two grandsons and granddaughter.

Ali Gentry

Ali grew up in Kingwood, Texas and graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration.  She lives in Fate with her husband Blake and their three very active boys. Tucker is 8 years old, Jase is 6, and Carson is 3. Ali enjoys spending time with her family whether it be on the lake, river, camping or just in the back yard swimming and hanging out. Her and her family are members of Redeemer Church in Fate, Tx. 

Carrie Simmering

Carrie was born and raised in and around the Metroplex.  She earned a B.A. in History at Texas Tech University and a J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law.  After completing her studies, she married the man of her dreams, a sailor in the United States Navy.  His career took them to Hawaii, Sicily, and Virginia.  After 14 years, God brought them home to Texas.  They have three sons that keep them busy but make them laugh every day.  Carrie enjoys reading, traveling, and talk radio.
