Thank you for your interest in The Cedar House TX!
We believe that God created each and every child with a specific bent and that learning takes place when minds and hearts are excited and interested! It is our desire to help children learn and discover their gifts and abilities given by God for His plans and purposes! We endeavor to engage students through time outside creating, exploring, building, worshiping, painting, and playing together.

We are located on 27 acres in Greenville, TX
We understand that Greenville is a large place. For the safety of our families, we don’t give out our exact location until registration, but you can look up Kingston, Tx to find the proximity of where we are located.

At the Cedar House Tx, we want kids to have a love for learning! Hands on learning and teaching through stories are some of the wonderful ways we help the kids get excited about a subject!

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire”  – William Butler Yeats

Farm Chores

At The Cedar House, children take on the responsibility of caring for God’s creation as they tend to a variety of animals, including horses, pigs, ducks, dairy cows, donkeys, goats, chickens, and guinea fowl. They learn the value of hard work and compassion while feeding, grooming, and caring for the animals each week. Additionally, they tend to the garden, learning the importance of nurturing the earth and growing food. This hands-on experience teaches them not only practical skills but also a deep respect for the natural world. Students often tell us this is their favorite part of the day!

Morning Time

We start each day with a joyful morning time, where we come together to sing songs of worship to our Creator, lifting our hearts in praise. We also learn a new hymn or Bible passage each month, memorizing the words and reflecting on its meaning. During this time, we enjoy a devotional from the Bible, grounding our hearts in Scripture. The older children play an important role in helping lead worship, guiding the younger ones with love and joy. It is such a joyful time on the farm, setting the tone for the day!

Science

Always hands on and fun! Our science lessons are taught from a biblical worldview integrating faith and reason, helping students understand the natural world as a reflection of God’s creation. We encourage exploration and discovery while fostering a sense of wonder and gratitude for the intricate design of the universe. Some examples of science units we have explored are geology, physical science, simple machines, Texas nature, foraging, and electricity. Here, you can see some students utilize tools and natural elements to create a circuit board during our electricity study.

Nature, Art, and Poetry

Nature, Art, and Poetry – aka NAP Time! Any time we are sparking a love of nature, we encourage the kids to worship God rather than his creations! It is a beautiful thing to see children learning to translate that into their art! During this portion of the day, students spend time around the farm nature journaling, exploring classical artists and renowned poets, while flexing our art muscles by experimenting with different media and methods. They may be listening to Bach while water coloring their own version of Monet’s Water Lilies, or you may find them using oil pastels to create a portrait of the dairy cow!

History

Each year the focus for our history studies differs! For the 2022/23 school year, we have learned about Heroes of Faith and the Middle Ages. Students have explored missionaries and the countries and cultures they’ve served around the world through food, art, music, and books. Medieval history has come alive through hands-on building of a castle fort and drawbridge, learning about kings and queens, and through reading about famous tales of bravery, Vikings, and God’s work to shape the world during that time!

Tinkering

In tinkering class, children and teachers work together to use various tools to create with wood! Learning how to tinker with wood provides a valuable opportunity for children to develop practical skills while nurturing creativity and problem-solving abilities. Working with wood encourages hands-on exploration as they learn to measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials into functional or artistic creations. The process teaches patience, attention to detail, and the importance of trial and error, as mistakes often lead to valuable lessons. Beyond the technical aspects, tinkering with wood helps cultivate a sense of accomplishment and self-reliance, as individuals see their ideas take shape and come to life through their own efforts. We use our tinkering time to build games for our annual Fall Festival, create the set for the annual play and other projects.

Survival Skills

Throughout the year we will embark on adventures learning survival skills such as shelter building, filtering water, building fires, plant identification, critical thinking and more. Learning survival skills at The Cedar House equips children with practical knowledge for self-sufficiency and resilience. These skills not only promote independence but also teach responsibility, problem-solving, and teamwork. By connecting with nature, students develop a deeper appreciation for sustainability and the importance of resourcefulness in everyday life.

Theater

Each year The Cedar House puts on a full theater production. Learning theater helps children build confidence, improve communication skills, and foster creativity. It also teaches them valuable life skills such as teamwork, empathy, and problem-solving. By engaging in theater, children gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them while having fun and expressing their unique voices. Our program has an added bonus to doing theather in nature at our outdoor stage. Pictured here is a group from last year’s production of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Other past productions include A Midsummers Night Dream, Wingfeather Saga, Parables in the Pasture, Jonah the Musical and Alice in Wonderland.

Middle School and High School Students

Older kids enjoy farm chores and morning time with the rest of The Cedar House then head off to the Bear Cave where they enjoy classes tailored to their ages. For the 2023 school year, we are offering electives to choose from that may be added on top of the TCH school day including a science lab for credit, Shakespeare club, speech and debate, guitar class, and Worship Circle – where we will teach kids who are interested how to lead others in worship through song, art, and music. Field trips and social opportunities (such as bonfires, barn dances, stargazing evenings, prom, service projects, etc.) for the older kids will happen throughout the year as well. We believe that connection and relationships become more important as children begin to mature, and we hope this will give them chances to see their friends outside of class to deepen friendships! More information about how to add electives will be made available after registration.
